Shenzhen
One of the largest cities in the Guangdong province, Shenzhen is the major financial centre of southern China and popular with multinational companies in the professional services, IT and financial sectors. The area was the first Special Economic Zone in China and has developed into one of its most successful since rapid foreign investment was ploughed into the area in the early 1980s. Dubbed as China’s Silicone Valley due to its volume of company headquarters in the high-tech industry, it is also home to one of the busiest container ports in the world.
The location
Situated in the Pearl River Delta, Shenzhen is located directly north of Hong Kong and has a population of approximately 15 million people.The city is made up of six administrative districts (Fuitan, Luohu, Nanshan, Yantian, Bao’an and Longgang) and four new management areas (Guangming, Pingshan, Longhua and Dapeng).
